Lantern AI Terms of Service
Last Updated: September 9, 2025
1. Introduction and Acceptance of Terms
Welcome to Lantern AI, a voice-based AI interview platform. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Lantern AI services (the "Service"). By accessing or using the Service (including participating in an AI-powered interview), you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms, as well as our Privacy Policy referenced below. If you do not agree with these Terms, do not use the Service.
Lantern AI ("Lantern," "we," "us," or "our") provides its interview platform to job candidates ("you" or "Candidate") free of charge. The Service is provided to Candidates on behalf of Lantern's client companies who are prospective employers. Lantern acts as an intermediary facilitating interviews between Candidates and those client employers. Important: Lantern AI is not an employer; using the Service does not form an employment contract. Lantern may update or modify these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes (for example, by posting the updated Terms on our website or via email), and continued use of the Service after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms.
2. The Lantern AI Service
Service Description:
Lantern AI offers a voice-based artificial intelligence platform that conducts automated interviews with job Candidates on behalf of client employers. In practice, this means when you use Lantern AI to complete an interview, you are responding to questions provided by a potential employer, and Lantern is recording and collecting your responses on the employer's behalf. After your interview, your responses (including audio recordings and transcripts) will be made available to that employer for their review.
No Fees for Candidates:
Lantern AI's Service is provided free of charge to Candidates. You will not be charged any fee by Lantern for participating in an AI interview. (Employers pay Lantern for the use of the platform.) However, note that you are responsible for any internet or telephone charges you incur from your own service providers in accessing our platform (for example, data usage or call costs).
Third-Party Platform Notice:
Lantern's clients (employers) may use our Service as part of their hiring process. Lantern AI is a neutral technology provider and does not influence the content of interview questions or the hiring decisions of our clients. Any interview questions you are asked through the Service are created or selected by the employer, not by Lantern. Lantern simply facilitates the Q&A session in an automated manner. After the interview, the hiring decision is made solely by the employer based on its own criteria; Lantern has no control over or responsibility for those decisions.
3. Account Registration and Candidate Responsibilities
Account Creation:
In order to use certain features of the Service (for example, to schedule an interview or review your recordings), you may need to create a Candidate account or be provided with login credentials. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information about yourself as requested, and to update such information as necessary. You are responsible for the accuracy and reliability of all data you submit to the Service. You may not create multiple accounts for the same person, nor create an account using false identity or on behalf of anyone other than yourself.
Account Security:
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account login information (such as username and password) and for all activities that occur under your account. You must not share your login credentials with anyone or allow any other person to access the Service using your credentials. If you believe that your account is being used without your authorization or suspect any security breach, you must notify Lantern immediately. You agree to log out at the end of each session and use caution when accessing your account from a public or shared device. Lantern is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to secure your account.
User Responsibilities:
By registering for or using the Service, you agree to comply with all applicable laws and regulations in your use of the platform. You represent that you are using the Service solely to participate in a legitimate job application process in good faith (i.e. to interview for a position you are genuinely interested in) and not for any other purpose. You are solely responsible for the content of your interview responses and any information you submit through the Service. You should ensure that your answers are truthful, accurate, and do not include information you consider confidential or that an employer is legally prohibited from asking or considering. You understand that your responses will be shared with the prospective employer, so do not disclose any personal information in your answers that you do not want the employer to have.
4. Acceptable Use and Prohibited Activities
We expect all users to use Lantern AI in a responsible and lawful manner. You agree that you will NOT do any of the following when accessing or using the Service:
• Impersonation or Misrepresentation:
Do not impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your identity or affiliation. You may not have someone else participate in the interview on your behalf, and you must not falsify information about yourself.
• Interference and Tampering:
Do not interfere with the normal operation of the Service or tamper with any recordings or content. This includes not attempting to modify, alter, delete, or fake the audio/video recordings or transcripts of your interview. You may not attempt to bypass any security measures, cheat detection mechanisms, or restrictions that Lantern has put in place. Any form of hacking, reverse engineering, or unauthorized access to the Service or its systems is strictly prohibited.
• Automated Access and Scraping:
Do not use bots, spiders, scripts, or other automated methods to register for accounts, access the Service, or extract data from it. Scraping or crawling the Service without Lantern's prior written consent is expressly forbidden. You also must not probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of any Lantern system or network.
• Malicious Code:
Do not upload, transmit, or introduce any viruses, worms, malware, or any other malicious or harmful code into the platform. Any attempt to compromise the Service's security or functionality via technical means is prohibited.
• Abusive or Unlawful Content:
Do not use the Service to harass, bully, threaten, or abuse anyone, and do not submit any content that is defamatory, obscene, pornographic, discriminatory, or otherwise unlawful or tortious. Your interview responses and any other communications through the platform must be professional and appropriate.
• Unauthorized Use:
Do not use the Service for any purpose that is illegal or beyond the scope of the Service's intended use (which is job interviewing). This means you should not exploit the platform for unsolicited marketing, data mining, or any commercial purposes of your own. You shall not resell, rent, or license the Service to others, nor attempt to derive the source code or underlying algorithms of the platform.
If you engage in any of the prohibited activities above or otherwise violate these Terms, Lantern reserves the right to suspend or terminate your account and access to the Service without notice (see Section 10 on Termination). Engaging in illegal activities may also result in referral to law enforcement. We also reserve the right to take appropriate legal action to prevent or remedy violations of this Section.
5. Privacy and Data Protection
Your personal data and privacy are very important to Lantern. Any personal information and data collected from you through the Service (including your account information, interview recordings, responses, and any other data identifiable to you) will be collected, used, stored, and shared in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Our Privacy Policy is a separate document that explains in detail how we handle your personal data; by using the Service, you acknowledge that your data will be processed as described in that Privacy Policy.
In particular, by using Lantern AI's Service, you understand and consent that your interview content and results will be shared with the employer client who requested the interview. Lantern acts as a data processor on behalf of that employer for the purpose of facilitating the interview. The employer may retain a copy of your interview responses and data as part of their recruitment records. Lantern will also store and process your data on our systems to provide the Service, but always in line with the Privacy Policy and applicable data protection laws.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We will not use your interview recordings or responses for any purpose other than providing the Service and improving our platform, except as permitted by law and described in the Privacy Policy (for example, we may use aggregated or de-identified data for analytics to improve the Service). Any handling of your data for machine learning or quality improvement will be done without identifying you personally. For full details on what data we collect and how we use it, please review the Privacy Policy. If you have questions about our data practices, you can contact us as outlined at the end of these Terms.
6. Intellectual Property and Content Rights
Lantern AI's IP:
The Service (including all software, algorithms, voice AI models, text, images, logos, trademarks, and other content provided by Lantern) is protected by intellectual property laws. Lantern AI (and its licensors, if applicable) retains all rights, title, and interest in and to the Service and all associated intellectual property. By using this platform, you are not acquiring any ownership of any part of the Service or its content. Lantern grants you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service solely for the purpose of participating in the AI interview process as permitted by these Terms. Except for this limited license, no other rights or licenses are granted to you. You must not copy, distribute, modify, make derivative works of, publicly display, or reverse engineer any part of our Service except as allowed by law or with our prior written permission.
Candidate Content:
As a Candidate, you may provide content as part of using the Service – for example, your spoken answers to interview questions, any text you input, or other materials you submit ("Candidate Content"). You retain any ownership rights you have in your own Candidate Content. However, by using the Service and submitting Candidate Content, you grant Lantern AI and the applicable client (employer) a license to use, reproduce, distribute, and process your Content for the purposes of conducting the interview, evaluating your candidacy, and for other uses necessary to provide the Service. This license is worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable to the extent needed to provide the Service (for example, to our cloud hosting providers), and covers any format (e.g. we may store your audio in a different format or transcribe it to text for the employer's review). We will handle your Candidate Content in accordance with our Privacy Policy, which limits how we can use personal data.
You represent and warrant that you have the right to provide the Candidate Content that you submit and that such content does not infringe any third-party rights. Do not upload or submit anything you do not have permission to share. Lantern does not pre-screen Candidate Content, but we reserve the right to remove or delete content that violates these Terms or applicable law.
Feedback:
If you provide any suggestions, ideas, feedback, or recommendations to Lantern about the Service ("Feedback"), we may use such Feedback for any purpose without obligation to you. Any improvements or modifications to the Service based on your Feedback are owned by Lantern AI.
7. Disclaimer of Warranties
Your use of the Lantern AI Service is at your own risk. The Service is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis, without warranties of any kind. Lantern AI disclaims any and all warranties, express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will meet your requirements or expectations, achieve any particular results, or that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of viruses.
Lantern does not guarantee that the voice AI interviews will be conducted without delays or technical glitches, or that any information (including interview questions or scoring) provided through the Service is accurate or reliable. We make no representation or warranty that the Service will be available at any given time or operate in any particular hardware or software environment. No advice or information (whether oral or written) obtained from Lantern or through the Service shall create any warranty not expressly stated in these Terms.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of the above disclaimers may not apply to you. In such cases, any implied warranties are limited to the minimum scope and duration permitted by law.
8. No Guarantee of Employment or Outcomes
Lantern AI's role is limited to providing the technology platform for interviews. We are not an employment agency or a hiring entity, and we do not guarantee any outcome from your interview. Participating in a Lantern AI interview does not guarantee you a job offer, a second-round interview, or any employment opportunity. All hiring or admissions decisions are made solely by the employer or organization that is our client, at their discretion. Lantern has no control over those decisions and cannot influence or change the outcome.
Furthermore, Lantern is not responsible for the content of the interview questions or evaluation criteria. Those are determined by the employer (our client), not by us. We do not vet or endorse the questions asked. If you believe a question is inappropriate or illegal, you should address that with the employer. Lantern disclaims any liability for any claims arising from the interview content or the hiring process, which are between you and the employer.
By using the Service, you acknowledge that the interview is part of an application process with the employer and not an offer of employment. You agree that Lantern AI will not be liable for any decision by an employer not to hire you, or for any action (or inaction) by an employer in the recruitment process. You release Lantern from any claims or damages arising out of your use of the Service, the interview process, and the outcome of your candidacy.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Lantern AI and its affiliates, officers, employees, agents, partners, and licensors shall not be liable to you for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, opportunities, reputation, profits or revenues, arising out of or in connection with your access to or use of (or inability to use) the Service. This limitation of liability applies regardless of the legal theory (contract, tort, negligence, strict liability, or otherwise) and even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
In addition, Lantern will not be liable for any damage or harm resulting from: (a) any interruption or cessation of the Service; (b) any bugs, viruses, or harmful code that may be transmitted through our platform by any third party; (c) errors or omissions in any content, including interview questions provided by employers; or (d) the defamatory, illegal, or offensive conduct of any third party (such as an interviewer or Candidate).
Maximum Liability:
If, notwithstanding the above disclaimers, Lantern is found liable to you for any claim or dispute arising from or related to the Service, our aggregate liability to you shall not exceed USD $100 (or the equivalent in local currency). If applicable law does not allow the limitation of liability to a certain amount, we will limit our liability to the lowest amount the law permits. The existence of multiple claims will not enlarge this cap. This limitation shall apply even if any limited remedy fails of its essential purpose.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so the above limitations may not apply to you in full. In such jurisdictions, our liability will be limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Lantern AI, its parent company, affiliates, and their respective officers, directors, employees, and agents ("Indemnified Parties") from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) that arise out of or relate to your use of the Service or your violation of these Terms. This includes, without limitation:
- Your breach of any provision of these Terms or any applicable law or regulation;
- Any fraud, misrepresentation, or wrongdoing by you in connection with your use of the Service (for example, providing false information, impersonating someone, or violating the Acceptable Use rules);
- Any allegation that any content or information you submitted to the Service (e.g. your interview responses) infringes or misappropriates the intellectual property, privacy, or other rights of any third party.
Lantern reserves the right, at your expense, to assume the exclusive defense and control of any matter otherwise subject to indemnification by you (in which case you agree to cooperate with Lantern in asserting any available defenses). You agree not to settle any such matter without the prior written consent of Lantern. This indemnification obligation will survive any termination of your account or these Terms.
11. Termination and Suspension
These Terms will remain in effect from the time you first use the Service until terminated by either you or us.
Your Right to Terminate:
You may stop using the Lantern AI Service at any time. If you have created an account, you may terminate your account by contacting us at the email provided in the Contact section. Stopping use of the Service or deleting the mobile application (if any) will also be considered a termination by you. Please note that terminating your account will not automatically delete interview data that has already been shared with an employer, which the employer may retain as part of their hiring records; however, Lantern will handle your personal data in accordance with the Privacy Policy and applicable law, including deleting or anonymizing data that we no longer need for providing the Service.
Lantern's Right to Terminate or Suspend:
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service (or terminate these Terms as they apply to you) at any time, with or without notice, if you violate these Terms or if we reasonably believe you have misused the Service (for example, engaging in any Prohibited Activities in Section 4) or pose a security risk. We may also suspend or end the Service with respect to you if we are required to do so by law or if the contract with the employer who invited you ends or is terminated. Additionally, Lantern may discontinue the Service or any part of it, or terminate these Terms for convenience, by providing you with notice (for example, by email) at least 30 days in advance.
If your use of the Service is terminated or suspended, you no longer have authorization to access any portion of the platform. In the event of any termination, Sections 6 through 14 of these Terms (and any other provisions which by their nature should survive) will survive termination, meaning those obligations and limitations will continue to apply even after you stop using the Service.
12. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms of Service and any dispute or claim arising out of or related to the Service or these Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Hong Kong, without regard to its conflict of law principles. By using the Service, you agree that any disputes with Lantern AI that cannot be resolved amicably shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Hong Kong, unless applicable law in your jurisdiction requires otherwise. You and Lantern consent to the personal jurisdiction of such courts. Notwithstanding the foregoing, Lantern reserves the right to seek injunctive or other equitable relief in any court of competent jurisdiction to prevent actual or threatened infringement, misappropriation, or violation of our intellectual property or proprietary rights.
If you are using the Service as a consumer in a jurisdiction that affords you mandatory legal protections, nothing in this Governing Law section shall deprive you of the protections of the laws of your country of residence that are applicable to you. In such cases, you may file a claim in the courts of that country.

14. Miscellaneous Provisions
Entire Agreement:
These Terms (along with the Privacy Policy and any other documents expressly incorporated by reference) constitute the entire agreement between you and Lantern AI regarding your use of the Service, superseding any prior agreements or communications related to the same subject matter. Any additional or different terms proposed by you (for example, in any communication) are hereby objected to and will not be binding on Lantern unless expressly agreed in writing.
Severability:
If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision will be enforced to the maximum extent permissible and the remaining provisions of these Terms will remain in full force and effect. The invalid portion shall be deemed modified to the narrowest extent required to make it enforceable, and if such modification is not possible, it shall be severed from these Terms.
No Waiver:
Lantern's failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of future enforcement of that right or provision. Similarly, any waiver of any provision by us on one occasion will not be deemed a waiver of any other provision or of the same provision on any other occasion. All waivers must be in writing to be effective.
Relationship of Parties:
Nothing in these Terms creates any agency, partnership, joint venture, or employment relationship between you and Lantern. You are participating in interviews as an independent applicant to our client, and Lantern is providing a service to facilitate that process. Neither party has authority to bind the other in any respect (except that Lantern acts as an agent for the limited purpose of transmitting your responses to the client employer).
Third-Party Beneficiaries:
These Terms do not confer any rights or remedies on any person other than you and Lantern (and Lantern's successors and permitted assigns). The employer that invited you to use Lantern AI is not a party to these Terms with you; your agreement with them (if any) is separate.
Headings:
Section headings in these Terms are for convenience only and have no legal or contractual effect.
By using the Lantern AI Service, you acknowledge that you have read and understood these Terms of Service and agree to be bound by them. Thank you for using Lantern AI, and we wish you success in your interview process!
